We’ve all been there. You look at your wardrobe, and see nothing but boring. You're totally in a style funk and you wonder if you'll ever get back to your fabulous self. Trust us we've been there. So how do you bounce back? Here are six tricks it take your wardrobe from drab to fab.
Out with the old, in with the new.
First things first you have to clean house there's no point in keeping items that just don't flatter you anymore head to your wardrobe and really ask yourself, what pieces can absolutely not live without?
Are there certain pieces of clothing that just are flattering on your body type? Stop trying to make them work. You are who you are and your shape most likely won't drastically change, and that's OK. So by all means let these unflattering items go. Doing this will make you feel refreshed recharged and ready to spice up your look.
Surround yourself with inspiration.
Seriously how do you expect to get inspired again if you're not flipping through magazines, surfing on Pinterest, or delving into the trendiest fashion blogs? Inspiration usually doesn't come out of thin air. Go find a style or two that works for you. Maybe it's glam rock, or maybe it's classic girl next-door with pops of color. Maybe you’re a total Bohemian princess. Whatever it is, pick one or two overall looks, and focus on curating a style around those themes.
Start with 3-5 statement pieces [we’re talking like jaw-dropping, “where did you find that?” items.]
A closet is no closet without a few one of a kind jewels, accessories, or shoes. Pick out a few pieces (hey, maybe even some jewels from #JJ), and use those as your style “pillars.” Build looks around those drop dead gorgeous, featured items. Now, let’s be clear. These aren’t just your basic pearl earrings. You want something with extra pizzazz. These pieces are ones that your fellow admirers should notice from blocks away.
Check in with your ladies who lunch.
We know, we’ve said it before. Don’t base your style decisions around what everyone else says or thinks. And we still stand by this! But, approach your “style mentors”, and do a bit of research. Which, if any, of your past looks made them swoon? Gather your data, girlfriend.
If you’re feeling daring … change your hair color.
This is only for those style risk takers, but if you can muster up the courage to change your ‘do, you definitely won’t regret it. Sure, there are tons of “try on this hair color” tools out there, but honestly? We recommend just going with your first instinct. Your creative soul knows what hair color it’s been dying to rock. Maybe it’s platinum blonde. Or maybe it’s a blue black ombre. How about total redhead? Either way, a new hair color will spike your confidence, and help you get re-inspired.
Go in with a plan.
Ok, this totally sounds boring, but it really works. Let’s say you allot $500 for jeans. You’re on a wardrobe replacement grind, and want to make sure all your bases are covered. You spend up your budget, have 5 five pairs of jeans. But then, you go to the boutique down the road, and spot these super cute hip huggers. If you’re relying on a plan, the random off the cuff purchases will be less and less. It will force you to truly curate an amazing, drop dead gorgeous collection.
In usual #JJ fashion, we’ll leave you with this.
“I don’t dress up for boys. I dress up to stare at my reflection as I walk past store windows.”
